June 3rd 2008

Tuesday was an amazing culinary experience.  We got the treat of cooking our own dinner!  We went to C.S.F Stimmantini cooking school in Verona.  We prepared four courses of food.

Our first course was a stuffed tomato.  The tomato was boiled and the skin was pealed off of it.  Inside Zucchini, Eggplant, Red peppers and shallots were added.  A zucchini pesto sauce was added underneath for dipping.  The  tomato was plated beautifully.

Our second course was a pasta.  We made fresh spaghetti.  On top of the spaghetti went Rabbit, Turkey and Chicken mixed with minced carrots and onions in a wine sauce.  This was also amazingly delicious.

Our third course was veal cooked with mushrooms.  Finally for desert we had a flan type of food.  I do not recall the name of it.  Milk, Gelatin, Sugar and Vanilla was mixed together.  From there they were set to cool in the refrigerator in small containers.  Once hard we popped them out of the containers and placed a strawberry puree on top with fresh berries.  It was  heavenly.

I really enjoyed the cooking experience.  We all got aprons and chef hats to wear and take home!   We get to cook once again next week.  I was so full the entire way home I could barely move while I walked through the city.  I think I gained 14 pounds.

Later on in the night after we felt a little better we met our friends at Capa Café.  One of them was eating a pizza with horse on the top.  Although   I was stuffed I could not pass up the opportunity of trying the pizza.  Horse tastes like beef jerky.  I was very interesting to me.  The horse was shaved and sprinkled over the entire pizza.  It was red in color.  It tasted very salty also.  There was also a very sharp parmesan cheese that was on the top of the pizza.  It was not melted but layed  on top at the last minute. I did not enjoy the pizza too much but I enjoyed trying a new food very much
