Monday June 9th 2008

Today I woke up and was till very tired from getting up so early the day before to get Erin’s cousin.  I had to be quiet as I stepped outside because the boys were asleep on the floor.  I grabbed a granola bar  for breakfast and ran out the  door.  My first class was photography and we had a guest speaker.  The speaker was a photo journalist from the area.  She was very informative and I learned a lot about her style.  She spent the entire class going over her slides and telling stories.  It was difficult to interpret what she was saying through the language barrier and her accent but I tried very hard to listen intensely.  I got a lot out of her lecture.  After classes I went back to the room and ate left overs for lunch. It was nothing special.  I spent some time napping and visiting with Erin’s cousin.  From there we had cooking class.  Cooking class was good but I did not enjoy our food as much as the time prior to this one.

Our first course was fish with polenta and raisins and vegetables.  Everything was diced up.  Sam and I spent a very long time de-boning the fish filets.  It was hard to get all the tiny bones out.   I did not really enjoy the polenta.  It was tasteless in my opinion and had a strange texture.  There was also still bones in the fish even though we tried very hard to get it out.  What can you do right?

Our second course was a vegetable risotto. The risotto was good and full of butter and cheese.  It was neat to watch the risotto being prepared- I had never made it before.  All the liquid that was slowly poured in interested me very much. The taste was heavy.

Our third course (the main course) was pork.  It was stuffed with what the chef called a moose, which was ground pork with some vegetables and spices in it.  He wrapped the pork in cow stomach so it would stay juicy in the oven.  The pork was good but I am not a huge pork fan so I did not enjoy it as much as the veal the class before.  The potatoes that were cheesy and on the side of it were very good.  Everyone really liked them.  They were scalloped and put in the oven.

Desert was a lemon croissant pie. It was tasty and very rich.  The crust was flaky and the inside was thick and custardy.  The pie was good but once again I liked the last desert better.  I was hoping to make some chocolate but it was still good!

On our walk home we were stuffed once again.  We made our way back and found out that in Piazza Irve there was a soccer game set up on a big screen TV.  It was Italy against the Netherlands. We all sat on the ground and watched the game.   Italy lost and everyone was disappointed.  After the game we met people from Illinois that are studying abroad here. They were very nice!

After the game Rachel and I took a walk.  We met up with our friend Erick and several of their other friends.  We walked around the fountain in Piazza Irve and spoke with them. We were only out for a little bit and then decided to go to bed.  We said good night to our friend Erick and left.  I was tired and Erin went out with her cousin but I went to bed!
